Moving into a new home is exciting, but can also be a bit scary. Even with a proper inspection, you do not know how the plumbing system has been treated over the years. There’s probably no record of any problems that have arisen, or which parts have been replaced (if any) so plumbing can be a bit of a mystery for the new home owner. There are however some things that you can do to be sure that your home has a good system. Her are five tips to get you started.

Internal Stop Tap

Every plumbing system has an internal stop tap. This is where the water can be turned off from inside the home in the event of an emergency. You may not know everything about the system, but if a leak should occur, you will want to know where the internal stop is located and ensure that it turns off and on easily. This is one of the first things to locate in any new property.

Boiler Service History for Loughbrorough Properties

Servicing a boiler is important, no matter how old or new the home is. A regularly serviced unit lasts far longer than one that is simply not checked out. The service history is usually located on the lid of the cold water tank for the system. This will let you know how often the system was checked and if it is in need of service currently. If there is no service history, you should seek professional advice quickly. Synergy Plumbing Services can come out and view your boiler and help with servicing.

Leaky Taps

Gaskets wear out all the time. It’s an easy fix, but if it is left too long, leaks can cause larger and more costly issues. Don’t put up with small leaks and drips, and don’t wait for them to get worse.

Check for Lead

Most homes have eliminated lead from the plumbing system by now, but if your home is older, check for any lead pipes to keep your family safe. A good indicator is that lead piping will look shiny when scraped with a screwdriver or other metal objects.

Water Meter

If you suspect that there may be a hidden leak somewhere, don’t forget that every home has a water meter. They are generally located outside the home and will tell you how much water is used during a billing cycle. This is good information to determine if there is an underlying leak somewhere
